I enjoyed Rumblefish so might have to look the book out. There's something really fresh about it that's akin to a splash of cold water to the face. And we all saw the movie. I believe THE OUTSIDERS still sits upstairs. I will give it a try. What a gift-to really speak to teenagers. pattinase (abbott)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02916037185235335846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7445048503136822514.post-3241599282371024772013-01-30T17:24:12.882+00:002013-01-30T17:24:12.882+00:00I think that must have been the perfect time and a...I think that must have been the perfect time and age to read the book, but it still works plenty of magic. It's such an amazing story even though it's pretty simple on the surface. I can see why the film might not live up to the book and I'm glad I came to them the other way round (though reading it as a teenager in a similar setting would have been so much better).

Nice to hear from you Naomi.Nigel Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05529578665251906089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7445048503136822514.post-71507800303737921472013-01-30T15:01:07.090+00:002013-01-30T15:01:07.090+00:00I first read THE OUTSIDERS in 1969, when I was 14 ...I first read THE OUTSIDERS in 1969, when I was 14 and the book was not yet considered a classic. I really related to the Greasers because that was what we called the teen boys in my neighborhood. They were an awful lot like the boys in the book. Anyway, the book made a huge impression on me. I read it and re-read and re-read it. I hated the movie. It was faithful to the book but somehow lacked the vibrancy, for me. But you only have to say the title of the book and I immediately say, "When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman, and a ride home."Naomi Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08005429772070247806noreply@blogger.com
